Colette was born and grew up in Kirkby. As a teenager she got in with the wrong crowd and started taking drugs including heroin. Her life went from bad to worse and eventually she moved to the Wirral to try to start again. There she remembered the things she had heard as a child when she went to church and determined to try to find God for herself. Her flat happened to be opposite a Community Centre where Jubilee Church Wirral met. She started attending the meetings and has never looked back. More recently she married Ewan and is about to start work.
Colette came back to Kirkby and took part in our New Perspectives meeting on 15th March. A video was shown of her talking about her teenage years and Colette then told a bit more of her story – an exciting story which is now full of the hope and purpose that God has given to her.
Starting as we mean to go on
The first regular Sunday afternoon meeting of Jubilee Church, Kirkby got off to a great start. There were nearly fourty people present and the meeting finished with Rob getting baptised. He told everyone present that he was doing this to demonstrate his newfound faith in God.
There was also an opportunity to worship together and Barry Cooper spoke on god's desire to give people a new start*. The meeting also included an offering taken to relieve the suffering of those living in Zimbabwe which came to over £600.
The next meeting will take place in Millbrook School, Kirkby Row on Sunday 15th March, starting at 4.30pm. The theme will be "New Purpose" and everyone will be very welcome.
